Glossary term
Open rate
Open rate is the share of delivered emails recorded as opened, usually via a tracking pixel. Since Apple Mail Privacy Protection began pre-loading images in 2021, open rate has become inflated and unreliable as a standalone measure.
Read it with caution
Privacy features auto-open emails without a human reading them, so a high open rate can be a mirage. Treat it as a soft signal, not proof of interest.
What to watch instead
Reply rate and positive-reply rate are more trustworthy indicators of whether cold outreach is working.
